A large HMO enabled an ambient (smartphone-based) AI tool that transcribes and summarizes doctor-patient visits for 10,000 physicians and staff to provide scribe-like function in real time. Over a 10-week span, it was used in over 300,000 encounters (with about 1000 physicians becoming heavy users, with more than 100 encounters each). The authors used a version of the Physician Documentation Quality Instrument to assess the tool’s performance, and found:
