Risk of Losing a Malpractice Lawsuit is Very Low

While one-third of us will get sued, most of those cases go our way

  • Men are at higher risk of getting sued than are women, both on a by-year basis as well as over the course of their careers.
  • Risk of getting sued increases with age, with lowest risk group being under 40 and highest risk group over 54.
  • 65% of claims were dropped, dismissed, or withdrawn.
  • Only 6% of claims were decided by trial verdict, and 89% of these were won by the defendant.
