Smart Practice: Unless there is some reason not to, offer your patients the chance to keep their (cleaned and sterilized) orthopaedic implants/hardware upon removal.
What’s the Claim?
When given the opportunity to keep their orthopaedic implants upon removal, more than 90% of patients did so. In a substantial minority, that opportunity improved their satisfaction with the experience (27%) and made them “respect their doctor and/or hospital more” (37%). Nearly three-quarters of them were happy to have the option. In this series, most patients who chose to have their hardware out did so for the relief of pain.
