Let Patients Room Themselves — It’s An Easy Win

Patients and staff both like this efficiency-boosting approach.

💡
Smart Practice: If your practice doesn’t already do it, let patients room themselves. It saves time, and improves both patient and staff satisfaction.

What’s the Claim?

An enormous (>1500-patient, >200-staff, 25-clinic) survey study found:

  • 86% of patients prefer to walk themselves to exam rooms rather than being escorted to a room by a staff member
  • Nearly 60% of staff members felt likewise
  • Although a majority of staff members reported being concerned that self-rooming could lead to patient confusion, only 8% of patients felt more lost or confused under this system, and 89% felt just as welcome using a self-rooming approach
