Gun Deaths Reach Record Highs

A disturbing reality: gun deaths match or exceed car deaths in the U.S.

  • More Americans died of gun-related injuries in 2021 than in any other year on record.
  • Between 2019 and 2020, firearm homicides increased by 35%.
  • Homicides are nearly five times higher in counties with the highest poverty level compared to those with low poverty.
  • Suicides account for more than half of gun deaths.
  • On the other hand, per miles driven, cars have gotten safer.
